why does everyone hate emo kids?

everyone always says emo kids are gay and they all cut but thats not true i am considered emo and i am straight and i dont cut. and pretty much all my emo friends are the same way as me. i just dont understand

Because the perception, based on the music lyrics (often almost humorously maudlin) and the fashion .. and maybe the cutting? ... is that emo kids are narcissistic (self absorbed and self centered), and act cynical and sad and affect a certain style for the sake of being cool, because they are neurotic bored by suburban life - rather than because they have actually suffered or know anything about suffering.

This will always happen to youth cultures. After all, they are sort of "countercultural" so it's inevitable and maybe even desirable that they'll be sneered at in the mainstream. It happened when I was an "alternative" kid in high school in the eighties (also "New Wavers," "deathrockers," and "Goths"). The particular subculture doesn't matter; any conspicuous youth subculture is liable to seem superficial and narcissistic to the mainstream. Especially once a lot of bored suburban kids jump on the bandwagon.

Your sweeping generalization that EVERYONE hates
"emo kids", makes you just as bad as those you are trying to shame for their stereotyping of you and others as being gay
or having tendencies to self-mutilate. It is true that you do not understand, it would appear that your immaturity, prevents you from seeing other points of view. The same way that the bigotry and lack of understanding, of a few people, towards whom you have this animosity, has caused them to misunderstand you.

It is true that people are entitled to their opinions, I just wish those opinions were better informed...

Because people have their own beliefs. many see emos as the usual bad stereotype idea, blood and suicide. Others just get the rock type version of you, which originally emo comes from a rock band and so the culture came on. yet people always see the bad, "evil" things of everything and so they hate any type except themselves.

PS Now I see. They " hate " you because you are different; wait 'till emo goes main stream. Now, what is " cut ". If you are going to use these esoteric terms the least you could do is provide meanings. Now, I am thinking of hating you!!

i'm not "emo" but i know people who are they're pretty nice, most are NOT gay
and they dont all cut themselves
