Are you sure it freezes, the reason I ask is because i recently defraged my PC and it took about 6 hours. It probably stayed on 1% for about 10 minutes!!

Make sure you free up at lest 15% of space on your hard drive or you won't be able to defrag. Believe me I've had this problem.

So far most of these answers are on the money, but not sure how comforatble you are performing them?

It might just be less hassle for you to restart your computer and bring it back up in SAFE MODE. (Hit F8 while rebooting and select SAFE MODE.) This should eliminate most all of the background programs that give defraggers grief.

Try a different defrag program, windows is not the best.

when i first got into computers and didnt know about defrag i went a few yrs without doing it and so as a result the first time i did it it took hours so do it first thing in the motning and leave it it will go..

Does it have a repair option? go to control panel, add/remove programmes & select the defrg prog. If it doesnt have a repair option you may need to uninstall & then reinstall. Hope this helps
