That's interesting - I live in East London. I have had a few updates so it could be that.

Hi Treving42 - thanks for your answer - I did that port scan and 2 were open and insecure. Would this be something to do with Limewire? maybe thats what the noise is?

Have you installed any free anti virus etc that came with an option upgrade? if so and you do not require it uninstall it.
or
You may actually have a virus/Trojan/key logger and the noise you hear is all the details of your session time being written to disk ready to be transmitted out to a remote server while you are on line and unnoticed by you.
Try booting up in safe mode and run anti virus/spy ware scans to see if anything is found. I would also recommend a port scan - link below.....Good Luck

Update >> Yes Limewire would do it - all ports should read stealth -open invite to hackers etc. (web search - close ports)

You may have a faulty fan inside your computer, or you could have picked up a virus.I would say you have a hardware fault. Noise that wasn't there before is sometimes a hard drive on the blink.
I once had the same problem and it was nothing more than a sympathetic vibration caused by my computer being hard up against the skirting board. Once shifted away it was O.K.

Hi,

This problem could be due to Server problems as it seems to be happening to other people in the South end of England. It could be power surges. Maybe a virus if your computer is noisy. What type of connection is it?

depending on where you live it could be affected by the winter storm system that has moved through much of Canada dna the US over the last 2 days - power outages affect the internet too.

also consider adding a spyware detection program like lavasoft to scan your machine - spyware will slow your machine down

they have free download for home users

Maybe a recent update caused your computer to go slow. Call your internet provider - you can actually "turn back time" on your computer to a time when it was going faster. I had it done myself recently, & it doesn't affect your score on here. It only turns back time for the software, not the files, or discs.
