amazon.com offers a limited selection of legitimate, free downloads: http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Music-Downloads/b/ref=sv_m_7/105-0302269-4482868?ie=UTF8&node=468646

(type in an artist in the search box with 'free music downloads' selected)

some folks gave you peer-to-peer answers, which do exist but are not legal (hence, you may 'get in trouble'); the new napster with its subscription fee is legal.

purevolume.com

I dunno if you would like my music or not but you can download it for free. What type of music do you like?

I know lots of place where you could buy good music for cheap but I don't want to throw a bunch of suggestions at you if you don't like Christian or Classical Music. So let me know what genre you like.

P.S. I want to be a Christian singer when I grow up & also play instruments. Please let me know if you like my music, or my voice. And hey look at my friends on purevolume. They're better then me and some of them you can download their music. Pretty cool site. I <3 purevolume.com

Try Bearshare.com. It is a peer to peer flie sharing network so it's legal. Unfortunately you have to deal with some advertisement software but it's worth it for free music!

stop being a pirate.
music is some people's job and if they're not getting payed for it then they can't make a living.
what if nobody paid you for doing your job? you'd be upset, wouldn't you?

just buy the music.
