Do any of you know how hot a volcano can get? I mean the lava, because once my third grade teacher said that if you dropped something into a volcano it would decinigrate before it reached the magma. Just wondering if that was true! Thanks in advance!!!

From Wikipedia:
Magma is a complex high-temperature fluid substance. Temperatures of most magmas are in the range 700°C to 1300°C.
That's well above the vaporization temperature of organics, and slightly above the melting point of iron.

The air or gases above the magma gets very close to the temperature of the magma itself, but gases have a low heat capacity, so something dropped into a volcano would most likely make it to the surface of the magma before it melted or vaporized. Your teacher was exaggerating, but not very much. The melting or vaporization would occur quite quickly.

The temperature of the lava can range from about 700 C to about 1600 C. How hot it is depends upon how deep the magma (melted rock inside the earth, before a volcanic eruption) comes from, how fast the volcano erupts (if it erupts over many days/weeks the magma will cool before the eruption), and many other factors such as its gas content, viscosity, composition.

You can find a lot of info by doing a "Google" search on the term:
"volcanic lava temperature"
