Monkeys & other primates are (almost?) always illegal. They also make horrible pets. There tends to be major rushes on them every time a cute one gets on tv (Friends, Dunston movies, etc). We get to see all the cute stuff without all the negatives. Monkeys are VERY intelligent and are not domesticated enough to make good pets. They can be very unpredictable and very dangerous. You're also unlikely to find a vet that knows much about them, making their health suffer. Please reconsider. Monkeys belong in the jungle.

no pet is good unless you have both the time and the knowledge to work with the animal ..too often people buy pets and go "how cute!" and once they grow up or act like the animal they were meant to be...they get thrown in a corner,or thrown into animal rescues with a slim chance of finding a decent owner .this website gives some very valuable info. before buying one ask yourself these questions 1) are you willing to spend alot of money on a huge cage that is weather proof and escape proof for the monkey? (bird cages are much too small) 2)are you willing to buy lots of toys as well as time to make sure the monkey keeps from getting bored (remember these are smart animals) 3)are you willing to give daily feedings of monkey chow and fresh foods aand vegetables? 4) are you willing to go to a vet that specilizes only in primates (a general vet wont do here) 5) you will also have to pay to go to a primate specialist so that you and your monkey will both be trained 6) is your family okay with this 7) what happens if theres an emergency and you need to leave, will someone properly care for your pet? 8) and last of all, what are your state and city laws for owning an exotic pet?some states require a special liscense

In the UK it is illegal to keep monkeys as pets without a licence.

If you were to obtain one illegally, chances are it's mother would have been killed to get the baby - not really the sort of thing an animal lover would want to do.

Monkeys are as everyone else points out terrible pets anyway. They are highly intelligent animals that need constant physical and mental stimulation which they could never get being a pet. They get depressed and can become very aggressive.

Get a domestic animal like a dog. They enjoy human company and are good pets

Monkeys / Primates - Owning a monkey (primate) is a big responsibility; they are not like domestic pets. Monkeys are wild animals. Keeping primates happy and healthy in captivity is difficult, expensive and time-consuming. Some cities and states prohibit the keeping of some or all primates, while others require special permits. Contact the monkey breeders below for your next family friend.

~~a type of monkey like this can range from $6000-$7000
