Oh, boy, the auditions. Don't we all love them? Here's some tips.

1) Don't get too hyped up. Relax and take a deep breath. Those butterflies in your stomach are good, pretend that they're ment to be there. All the audition is is a dance class.

2) Prepare prepare prepare. Don't slack off the week or two before the audition, as it will be noticed by the judges. Stretch and be ready to go before class starts.

3) Be early. If you're early you have time to stretch and warm up, getting a jump-start on anyone else coming. Also, the judges will see that you're early and assume that you'll probably be on time to class if they pick you.

4) Have fun. When you go try to go with a friend and just have fun before the audition. Talk and take your mind off what you're about to do. Don't make the audition a humongous deal or else you'll get way too nervous.

Hope you do well! I know how I feel before auditions and it sucks but hang in there and I'm sure you'll kick butt. You may be surprised.

Typical preparation stuff: Review what you're supposed to wear and bring to the audition. Make sure you know exactly where the audition is being held as well as where to park, and plan on getting there early.

As for not being nervous, try to think of the audition as a performance, with the judges as your audience, so that you shine and sparkle as though you were on stage. Think positively, as negative thoughts can trip you up. And finally, don't worry too much about making mistakes, as they are expected. Instead, focus on making the proper corrections after a mistake is pointed out.

I hope you know by now that a dancer's expression should not draw attention to a mistake and that you're to react with a sense of thankfulness rather than devastation when a correction is given. Stage presence is often just as important as technical skills when accepting students. So if you shift your focus a bit more towards your personality and worry less about your technique, it might help you to relax more and be yourself.

Merde!
