I'm British, and so am aware that answers may differ depending on nationality. But I have said and heard the word 'ironical' before, yet was pulled up on it by some friends of mine.

They say that ironic is a word, but ironical isn't, and it doesn't make sense to say 'How ironical!'

So is it, or isn't it?

I hadn't heard it before, but I googled it, and it turns out to exist.

Ironic isn't an English word, however, there is such a thing as ironic. Ironic is an adjective so you don't need to add a suffix.

God Bless :)

Yes. It means the same as "ironic". Most people use "ironic" though.

Does not sound right. I would not use it.
But since you've typed it, in a sense it is a word now, possibly with the definition 'see ironic'.

I'm afraid your friends are right this time. The phrase would be "how ironic". There's no two ways about it.

Ironic is ironical is just bad grammar; like you don't say sarcastical either.
