And what kind of lanuage was used by conservatives to desribe those promoting racial eaqulity,bsedides n----lover? So arent things more "liberal" today? Nowadays,you can even eat meat on Fridays without going to Hell!
And isnt the reason WHY conservatives do not promote segregation is because it is another archaic conservative value no one really believed in anyway?

Yes I know Robert Byrd is a token conservative in the Democratic Party.Most of his ilk flocked to the Republican Party in 1964 after Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act,and the rest as the say "is history"!

in many ways, mainstream conservatives nowadays are more liberal than conservatives or even some liberals in the 50s. You won't find many modern neo-cons who support segregation or hate jews. modern social conservatism is mostly a reaction to secular culture such as multiculturalism and "taking Christ out of Christmas". But i am sure there are some conservatives today who still hate blacks and Jews, maybe some of these are prominant politicians who don't voice their true beliefs because, liberal or conservative, hating blacks or jews are two ofthe biggest taboos in modern american society.

The democratic party supported segregation. What president, oh master liberal, emancipated the slaves? Lincoln, and guess what he is a Republican. Next time I'd suggest you get your facts right.

Perhaps... but you are guaranteed to have liberals who love America and civil liberties as well. Today's liberals would be arrested for treason or branded part of the "Red Menace" for their socialist, anti-American attitudes if they were transported back to 1957. Back then liberals like JFK were looking to usher in a new period for the USA, not giving aid and comfort to the enemy..

It's true that most liberal views of the past are considered standard views today. It is a good assumption that liberal views of today will be standard in several decades.
What do you want o bet in 20 years gay marriage will be the same as a black person marrying a white person today. 60 years ago that was illegal.

*most southerners were democrat in 1957, then they all switched to republican, so your theory is flawed, the now dems were republicans back then
