if you look at other media outlets from all across the globe, you will find the media coverage to be much more liberal than here. the BBC has even led many journalistic investigations into the war. most countries show the very negative side of war, like dead bodies or dead or wounded children. bush has made it illegal to even show flag draped coffins of soldiers. is this just another conservative excuse to explain why their beloved president is hated by 70% of the population? does the media just get dubbed liberal because the stories undercut what bush wants? i think if people really read other media outlets, they wouldnt be so vehement about our media.

Good question. If people bother to look in to the facts - they will realize most newspapers, publications and broadcast networks in the United States are owned by huge media conglomerates. These people are in it to make money and to not alienate advertisers - of whom the vast majority are well-heeled Republicans. I suspect for every "liberal" story that is published - there are several that are NOT for fear of losing revenue. Money drives people more than political affiliation!

THE ARGUMENT over whether the national press is dominated by liberals is over. Since 1962, there have been 11 surveys of the media that sought the political views of hundreds of journalists.
In 1971, they were 53 percent liberal, 17 percent conservative.
In a 1976 survey of the Washington press corps, it was 59 percent liberal, 18 percent conservative.
A 1985 poll of 3,200 reporters found them to be self-identified as 55 percent liberal, 17 percent conservative.
In 1996, another survey of Washington journalists pegged the breakdown as 61 percent liberal, 9 percent conservative.
Now, the new study by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press found the national media to be 34 percent liberal and 7 percent conservative.

Over 40-plus years, the only thing that's changed in the media's politics is that many national journalists have now cleverly decided to call themselves moderates. But their actual views haven't changed, the Pew survey showed. Their political beliefs are close to those of self-identified liberals and nowhere near those of conservatives. And the proportion of liberals to conservatives in the press, either 3-to-1 or 4-to-1, has stayed the same. That liberals are dominant is now beyond dispute.

Does this affect coverage? Is there really liberal bias? The answers are, of course, yes and yes. It couldn't be any other way. Think for a moment if the numbers were reversed and conservatives had outnumbered liberals in the media for the past four decades.
Would President Bush be getting kinder coverage? For sure,
and I'll bet any liberal would agree with that.
Would President Reagan have been treated with less hostility if the national press was conservative-dominated? Yes, again.
Would President Clinton's actions in Office have been shown as illegal? Oh Yes
And I could go on.

Ted Turner owns AOL/Time/Warner that includes CNN. Would you call him a conservative. The guy that gave 2 million dollars to Arafat and asked him to destroy Israel. And calls for the impeachment of Bush?

Because Bill Oreilly and Rush Limbaugh keep telling them that there is a liberal media. I believe it was Ronald Reagan's press secretary who said that the most successful piece of Republican propaganda ever was making the American people believe the myth of the liberal media.

There's no such thing as "liberal" and "conservative" media. ALL of American mainstream media serves the same master. And they ALL lie to us EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Media has the proverb "If it bleeds it leads" burned into their puny minds. Just because there are more liberal outlets out there that doesn't mean that they aren't liberal ratings junkies.

"president is hated by 70% of the population" that statement alone tells me that you have bitten into a media bias.

This country sure has shown the negative side of war.
CNN shows are troops being snipe but they don't show Muslims beheadings.
