I am totally against flag burning, but I do not believe there should be a law against it. The flag stands for nothing if not for peoples right to burn it. The flag is a piece of cloth representing a country, in this case it represents a country whose foundations are built upon certain freedoms. A large one of these freedoms is freedom of speech, your right to make political statements disagreeing with the government. That is what flag burning is, it is expressing the utmost disagreement with actions of the govt. I would never consider burning the flag, but I believe strongly in peoples right to do so.

First of all, thank you for explaining what the terms 'pro' and 'con' mean.
The American flag flies to remind us that Americans are free... and that freedom includes burning that very flag. While I would prefer to inflict pain on anyone who would do such a thing, I have taken an oath to defend them and their rights.

I personally think if you want to burn the flag that you are well within your rights to do it. The government has no business telling you whether you can or can't burn its flag. Unless you are in a totalitarian regime with Big Brother as your leader. We do not need to further expand the government's power into our personal lives.

My flag, my money, my property, I can burn it.

Why don't we pass a law that the American flag can only be flown at govt facilities. This would prevent it being burned by those that want to, and prevent the right from wrapping themselves in it.

Why do the people who are most upset by flag burning have absolutely no problem with the destruction of the Constitution?

Well, I don't think one should be jailed for doing so. However, I would absolutely throw a brick at someone's face for doing so, and take my chances with the law.
That said, I live in one of the most horrifically blue states in the union(Mass), and have never seen anyone burn a flag.

I am no flag burner, but we have much greater issues then to bother with such a little thing. I think it is wrong to burn the American flag in protest of the government or its policy's. However it is a freedom in this country to express yourself in such a way. To many people have died protecting our freedoms to allow even one freedom to be taken away. If you see somebody burning a flag I think it is up to you to protest the protester. My opinion.

If you burn the flag in another Country so be it. Now if you live here in the USA then that is a different story....if you live here in the USA you should wave our flag and be proud of it. If you burn our flag it is disrespectful to do so in the USA. If you dont like us or our flag then leave and go home.

It's a "wedge issue" designed to get votes. The incidences of flag burning are so minuscule, they can't be measured as a percentage of population.

To have Congress debate this issue is a waist of their time and taxpayers money.

there are only a few countries around the world that have laws against burning their flags. Two of them are Iran and North Korea. Do we want to be like them????

I am STRONGLY against flag burning. Some would say its free speech, I would argue nothing is being spoken. Ive also heard the argument that its protected as freedom of expression, but there is no such freedom explicitly detailed within the constitution, only vaguely inferred and twisted by activist judges. I think its highly offensive and disrespectful to the country that gives them so many freedoms already. I think anyone who argues that they have the freedom to burn the flag they claim gave them that freedom is a hypocrite and either 1) shouldn't be arguing in our courts or 2) shouldn't be burning our flags
