y is a function of x, in this case it's a linear function of x:
y = f(x) = 4 * x
On a Cartesian graph, y as a function of x will be just a line with a slope of 4 that crosses the origin (0,0).
Give a value to x, and you'll get the value of y. For e.g. x =1 means y = 4 * 1 = 4.

It depends on what "answer" you are looking for. If you are solving for the value of 'x', simply divide both sides by 4.

4x / 4 = x
y / 4 = y/4

Therefore:

x = y/4

The key is that you can do the same mathmatical operation to both sides: add, subtract, multiply, divide, etc.

Hi Actually you have single equation with two variables for solution of any system of equation you should have atleast as many equation as number of variables.

For this type equation information insufficient and you could not solve

You are trying to get x alone on one side, so you would divide both sides by 4. x=y/4

there is no answer,
since you have 2 variables x and y , you need at least 2 equations to solve them

that is solved for y... 4 is the slope, and the y-intercept is 0.
