Either I'm going def, or my speakers are not loud. I have a laptop, and have turned up the volume all the way, but is there not a way you could turn up the volume any louder?

The best way to get good volume from a laptop is to add external speakers. A cheaper alternative is to use headphones. Most laptops have a headphone jack right on the front.

If it's only one or two files giving you problems, particularly downloaded songs or videos, it could be that the original recording had poor sound quality. I'm not sure if there is a way to fix that.

First, go into the Microsoft Windows and pull up the Volume Control from your Accessories. Make sure that its volume is at the full level for MAIN and any others you may use (Wave, CD, etc). Sometimes the Windows Media Player or other software is turned up to its highest volume, but you still could go higher if that Volume Control option was pushed to its highest setting.

If that did not help, you may be able to add external speakers that are powered (either by plugging them in or by batteries). If you have an output jack for headphones or speakers on your laptop, there are some tiny speakers that can give off some really good sound nowadays.

I have a set of Yamaha speakers that I purchased specifically for my PC, which came with a subwoofer so I actually can get Dolby 5.1 sound from movies and some video games.

I would not use external speakers on a laptop when I was travelling, but if you use the laptop at home, this may help the sound quality or volume.

there a few settings that might have gotten changed that just turning up the volume would not help make sure that your wav volume is all the way up and that cd volume is all the way up also go into the audio properties from the control panel and make sure everything is set right go through the advanced settings and see if anything looks off, and make sure that it is set for laptop speakers, other than that buy external speakers

Make sure you do not have volume controls on some program that you are not using turned way down. I had a real problem (forgive the pun) with the RealPlayer. When I turned down the volume on the RealPlayer and then closed it, my max volume was impacted by it. Also check your QuickTime and MediaPlayer settings to be sure you don't have one of them turned down, but I have not had the same problem with them.

You can also upgrade your speakers, and your sound card (if it is not embedded), but that will likely alter your sound quality more than the volume.
