What about the movie Titanic- the one with LeoTARDO Di CRAPrio and lovely Kate Winslet...was that movie fiction, or based on a true account- I mean, specifically in regards to the "Heart of the Ocean" and other things?

The story concerning Titanic is true. The characters and love story (including "the heart of the ocean")of Jack and Rose is pure fiction.

Real People on the Titanic portrayed in the film are some of the following...

Molly Brown...Kathy Bates
Captain Smith...Bernard Hill
Thomas Andrews...Victor Garber

There were others but I won't list them all

According to Wikipedia, the last American survivor who was old enough to remember the sinking died on May 6, 2006. She was Lillian Gertrud Asplund, but these two people are still alive...

Barbara Joyce Dainton (née West) (born 24 May 1911), currently the oldest living survivor

Elizabeth Gladys Dean (born 2 February 1912), youngest passenger and survivor

It is amazing that they have lived to such ripe old ages...guess if you can survive a catastrophe like the Titanic sinking the rest of life is smooth sailing...

There are 2 survivors left (both of England), Barbara Joyce West Dainton and Elizabeth Gladys "Millvina" Dean who were both under a year old at the time and neither one has any memory of the Titanic. The last American survivor died last year.

As far as I know, the love story in the movie is not based on a true account at all. There's always been the underwater search for Titanic 'treasures' since tons of jewels, coins and other valuables sank with the ship but the 'Heart of the Ocean' is totally fictional. That necklace was just supposed to be something similar to the Hope Diamond which is not lost and was never on the Titanic.

The Titanic was based on a true account. It refers to the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. I doubt that the whole embellishment with the love and all other things were actually a true account, because anyone aboard the real Titanic would be reealllly old, would have been too young to remember or dead.I think the directors were trying to base their story on a true event and imagine what it would have been like to have been present. If they had made the story about only the sinking ship, it probably wouldn't have been as much of a hit as it turned out to be as a result of the love story and all the other added bits.

The movie was based on a trye story and I think at last count there were two remaining. They were both babies when the titanic sank though (10 and 2 months)

Yes there are surviors because in the other version of the Titanic one of the charecters is a real survior. But the one with Leonardo Dicapero is just based on the event.

Yes, it was based on a true story and there was a real "heart of the ocean" necklace.
The only living survivor died last year in the United States. And the story of her and Jack Dawson was true. I watched a documentary on her and the story of the necklace and Jack.
There is your truthful fact based answer.

I think it was based on a true story. I think there were some survivors who were rescued by a ship called the Carpia or something like that.
