It has been a long time since I have done this. BUT I think you take the number of people and divide by number of units.
I did that with both 34 people and 10 people. It came out to 77%
black and 23 % white.
You round it off to make up for the 1% left over. That is the correct way to do it.......

34 + 10 = 44 people
44 less 10 = 34
divide 34 by 44 = .772727
roughly 77% is black & 23% is white

34 / 44 = 77%
10 / 44 = 23%

Well you have 44 apartements
White people = 10/44 = .227 or about 22.7 percent
Black people = 34/44 = .772 or about 77.2 percent.
Tell them the other .1 percent is latino.
