there are two gas v8's that the truck could have, the 350 small block and the 454 big block. the 454 would get around 8-10. The 350 would get around 11-14 in the one ton.

It's not going to be very good! 12-13 maybe.
They didn't make those big mamas with fuel economy in mind.
If you are pulling a heavy load then they are great. But for everyday driving you are going to put a lot of money into the gas tank.

I WOULD SAY A POWER PROGRAMMER, TRY AND DRIVE IT EASY HONESTLY, SMOOTH TAKE OFFS ARE THE BEST FOR GOOD GAS MILEAGE. BUT AS FAR AS ITEMS TO INCREASE GAS MILEAGE, MAYBE DIFFERENT TIRES, I HEARD TORNADOS WORK A LITTLE BIT, IF IT IS A 2 WHEEL DRIVE YOU MAY WANT TO CONCIDER LOWERING IT, BECAUSE THE LOWER IT IS THE PRESSURE THE TRUCK HAS AGAISNT IT. RUN IT WITH THE TAIL GATE DOWN, OR GET A BED COVER BECAUSE THAT WAY THE AIR GLIDES OVER THE TRUCK INSTEAD OF HAVING MORE RESISTANCE DUE TO THE BED. OTHER THAN THAT TRUCKS SUCK AS FAR A GAS MILEAGE IS CONCEARNED. I HAVE AN 02 DENALI THAT IS LOWERED IT HAS THE 4.8 IN IT I DRIVE IT EASY BECUASE IT IS A SHOW TRUCK BUT I USUALLY GET 20 OUT OF IT. BUT IT IS EXTREMELY LOW BECAUSE ITS BAGGED, WITH A FLOWMASTER, AND LO PRO TIRES AND 20" WHICH ALL OF THAT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR PROBLEM, AND HOPEFULLY I WAS SOME HELP

If you have access to the local library grab some older Consumer Reports, they list the vehicles and all their specs. Also, go the Federal website, NHTSA and see what they show.
You can also email GM Customer Service, give them the year, make and model, the VIN is best and also the engine size. Your local GM dealer can give you GM contact info.

You may be surprised. A one ton chevy could get 15+ mpg.
Not so with a Dodge or Ford and plus, they ride like Crap
Go Chevy.
