Check out Gina Ford's books available from all good bookstores or Amazon. We have used her routines for all three of our kids, they eat and sleep brilliantly (12-14 hours a night, even our 6 year old). Some might find her regimes a bit strict and authoritarian but believe me they work and we have healthy, happy, confident and well-adjusted kids.

You probably need to follow the controlled crying methods to establish good sleep patterns as part of the problem will be association. It's hard at first to listen to your baby cry for long periods, but trust me it is worth it for both you and her. Don't take our word for it - spend £15-20 on one ortwo of these books and give it a go. I promise you won't regret it.

Don't be around during daytime if possible, or be outside where you cannot breastfeed. Try giving her more milktype products. (Cowmilk or adaptation milk), especially before bedtime. Also increase the food meals to 5 times a day. 8:am breakfast, 10:30 am fruitjuice (if possible fresh made). 12:30 lunch, 16:00 yoghurt or a small snack 19:30 dinner. Between the mealse, give her plenty of water, milk or other alternative to drink. Your milk will be enough for her during the nighttime. My baby is 13 months old and still is waking up every 2 hours during night. Good luck..

Keep up the nursing!! Do not start formula. You've come this far, you can make it. Hate to break to to you though but my daughter nursed every 2 hours until she was 8 months old, day and night, then every four hours even after she started solids. Now she nurses in the morning and before bed and two times during the day. She is nursing because she has a need. It can be wearing but even if she is doing some non-nutritive suckling, it's for a purpose. Talk to a lactation consultant.

i am a mother of four and have breastfed all my children for a year each give or take. Night time feeding is a nightmare does she have a bottle at all i think the only way to go is to refuse feeds at night maybe leave her bedtime feed and only offer her water when she wakes in the night she will hate it but will soon learn then your milk should be alright during the day try and give her three good feeds during the day she still needs it but do it after her meals also your breasts might not be empty but at night they tend not to be hungry but just like to suckle on the nipple for comfort and not latch on properly. there is a really good breastfeeding support group that your health visitor can get you on to cant remember the name of it but the nct are good too. good luck

I used a breast pump to encourage the milk in between feeds - I saved it and bottle fed my baby during the day and suckled if necessary at night. Also, last feed at night - against midwife's advice, I put half a rusk in the bottle and baby was satisfied for longer. My mum had 5 of us and used rusks in the bottle - there is of course a choking risk as with anything. My youngest is now two and a bit and still likes her night bottle with a whole rusk. Its up to you but 10months is a long time with broken sleep. Oh and on my son, I used a dummy at night to skip one feed. But he was much younger. I don't like dummies so I chucked it out at about 7 months. By that stage he was sleeping through most nights.

I only breastfed for 4 months so I don't know if my info will help, but..... I stopped by only giving baby one breastfeed at night to send her off to sleep. The rest of the day I gave baby formula. The only other sugestion is to give her 1 bottle a day of boiled cool water mixed with 1 oz of pure fruit juice.
Don't panic, all babies are different. Your baby might just want more fluids at the moment than food. Baby will eat when she's hungary.
Hope all goes well.

Poor you! I know how hard this can be, we've only just got our 7 month to go through, it's bliss!

First of all, offer more in the day, both breast and water. Getting in an extra sitting during the day should help/

Have you tried dreamfeeding? Just pick her up, still asleep, and feed. Gently wind her if she needs it (its easy cos she'll be so relaxed), and put her down again. Hopefully she'll start to go a reasonable stretch after this.

I recommend Elizabeth Pantleys No-Cry Sleep Solutions, we used a few of her ideas and they seemed to help. It's not an instant cure, but all steps in the right direction!

Good Luck!

Give your baby water at night she should be able to go through all night at her age ,like you said she obviously is not eating enough during the day ,if you stop feeding her at night then she will be hungry day time,if shes getting only water she will soon not bother waking up for boring old water, good luck xx

Have you tryed giving her formula as a fill in when your milk supply is low, especially at night? Maybe just a few ounces will satisfy her as long as her tummy is full. Perhaps some formula during the day will allow your breast milk supply to satisfy her during the night. Please discuss this with your pediatrician.

Good luck!
