The Kernel32.dll file is a 32-bit dynamic link library file in Windows 95,98,Me. The Kernel32.dll file handles memory management, input/output operations, and interrupts. When you start Windows, Kernel32.dll is loaded into a protected memory space so that other programs do not take over that memory space.

Several ideas for you to try. First, if your Win ME is not a legal copy, get one. I had all kinds of problems when someone installed a bootleg copy and my drivers wouldn't update.
Second, if your copy is legal, update your drivers, especially your video drivers.
Lastly, you might have a corrupted file in Windows and will have to re-install. Win XP has a repair feature; not sure if ME does.

you can simply go to windows search and search for the .dll name that keeps hanging. It should be in your Windows/System folder but I will bet you will find it elsewhere as a duplicate. I'm no expert but what I read said the .dll file only needs to be in your window/system folder but some sloppy software programs install or leave it in some other location. So what happens is some program uses the version placed where it doesn't belong and then another program goes and opens the version in the windows/system folder and bingo! You have a crash. What you should do is make sure the one in the windows/system folder is the latest version (view properties) and delete (or rename to be safe) the others. Supposedly all programs know enough to go find it in the windows/system folder. I've used this method to get myself out of a lot of annoyances and have not shot myself in the foot yet. Good luck and I hope it is as productive for you as it has been for me.

Lexplore is usually a virus/spyware. If it caused a crash with the kernel, then it was probably attempting to do some of it's malevolent work, while you were working and caused a memory access violation. This will bring up your error stop message. you will need to update your anti virus software and acquire a good Spy ware scanner. Try SPYBOT S&D. in a GOOGLE search. down load it and run it. You may click on start, go to RUN and type "MSCONFIG" once there go to the "STARTUP" tab. See if you happen to see the "Lexplore.exe" module" in the list and un check it. "WARNING" Do not remove anything else "UNCHECK" or you may run into trouble. Once you perform the uncheck, clik on apply and the OK, restart the pc. If it happened to be there then that will prevent it from loading at start up and must likely you wont have the problem. However the malware is still existent and you must remove it. Spybot is free and works well. Make sure to update it as soon as you install it. Hope this works . Will.

Also it may mean that a dll was replaved improperly. I would reinstall the latest SP and IE. Do a cleanup first (remove any unwanted application, run a cleanup utility).

And it's Iexplore.exe, not Lexplore (With I from Idaho or Iowa or Indiana)

Sorry, I just noticed you have Win ME. Yah, get rid of that (replace or upgrade to Win XP).

Run an anti-virus program.

One of the toughest files are .dll files. They get corrupted easily and are essential for operation.

So,you have Windows Millenium, first thing to do is get rid of the worst OS ever made, its crap.
If your computer can run XP then upgrade, otherwise go back to Windows 98.
Google it,you'll be suprised what you'll find on errors.
Good luck

The "main file" of kernel32.dll is damaged. Try to repair by restoring this file. Or Iexplore.exe is damaged. Try to repair it by restoring this file too.
