I'm pretty sure O+ is the most common. The most rare is probably AB-. I am also A+, which is the second most common. Giving blood is always a good thing, but honestly A+ is probably the blood they need the least of because it's donated a lot (because of how common it is) but they can't exactly give it to a lot of people, just A+ and AB+ people. So they just end up overstocking and throwing a lot away. So I would say if it makes you feel better about donating and possibly saving someone's life, go for it, but it won't be too terrible if you don't either.
And just a note to the answer a couple above mine: O+ is not the universal donor, but it's close (it can only give to other positives). O- is the universal donor, which can give to anyone. O+ is very common, while O- is one of the rarest and most desirable for donation.

Giving blood is always a good idea, no matter what your blood type. Yours isn't particularly rare, but it's still needed. The most common blood type is O+ (my type) which has the advantage of not being rejected by any other type, hence its designation of "universal donor". I don't know what the rarest type is, but I know it's definately not yours.
