*SIGH* The answer does not lie in censoring the artist. It lies in educating the ignorant. If people knew the studio's and such create 90 percent of the rappers and their images, how tough would they seem? If people knew that most of these GANGSTA'S never shot a gun, never sold drugs, had decent lives... If people just weren't so stupid. I don't blame, I CAN'T blame the rappers. Hell, If you'll buy a million CD's from me, I'll sing about raping donkeys and kissing male butt. If people just stopped buying it, it would go away. But it won't Cuz all the stupid young black males without fathers look up to retards like these cuz they're succesful black men. ANd why wouldnt they look up to them? They seemingly came from the ghetto to rise to Being on MTV cribs, being in movies, having clothing lines. As for the stop degrading women... women allow themselves to be degraded. When women stop being prostitutes, strippers, dancers in degrading videos, and other degrading activities, maybe they won't be degraded by others so much. Any woman that has ever rapped or been in a video with someone like Too Short deserves to be degraded, because she allowed herself and her kind to be. Rap may suck, but people eat it up like candy. And for that, i respect the all powerful music execs. that decided to make it so. GO POP-RAP!

No.
People are responsible for their own actions. Just because you see someone act a certain way doesn't mean you have to emulate that type of behavior. What about violent video games and violent movies?
It all starts with the parents. The parents in todays societies are not raising their children to know right from wrong. If you are going to place blame, place it on the root cause of the problem. I can enjoy rap music without trying to be a thug. Many people I know are the same way. It's how you are raised. How can you place blame on a rapper because he found a way to make money? If they are making money, someone is buying it. What does that tell you about what is wrong with society in the first place? Violence and sex sells. I can't help someone who is weak minded and are easily influenced by their peers or by a song. Only the parents can prevent that.

Take responsibility for your own actions and quit blaming other sources.

I don't know, but I'd be interested to know what people think I listen to. I dress in jeans, heels (sometimes flats), and different conservative shirts (not t-shirts). On any given day, you could catch me listening to any of the following: Beirut, Elliott Smith, Bob Dylan, Tupac, John Frusciante, Silversun Pickups, Michael Jackson, random instrumentals that I like, Of Montreal, Sam Cooke, Outkast, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Elvis Costello, Decemberists, The Wallflowers, Van Morrison, Bauhaus, Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, Clash, Third Eye Blind, Blind Melon, Arcade Fire, Jeff Buckley, Sun Kil Moon, Tori Amos, Red House Painters, Peter Bjorn and John, Nirvana, David Bowie, Ben Folds, Meat Puppets, Entrance, Elton John, Neil Young, The Cranberries, and The Cure, among others. Is that what you'd guess?

Yes it seems to. Thug life seems to be the respected way of life in this day. I like some of it too but it is sad that so many feel that they have to emulate rappers lifestyles.

I agree. I don't think rap emulates reality to a lot of people, but then it becomes their reality when they try to reproduce the lifestyle via gangs etc.

No ... although people use it to curse and talk about sex etc. there is good rap out there. For example chrisitan rap, which sends out a good message. Music it self is an expression of how one feels.
