I do not need to stay in one as I have our own home in Triplicane, Chennai - but I know of several 'mansions', for which this locality is famous.
Usually these mansions offer rooms only on monthly rates, both on single or sharing basis. Depending on the amenities that are provided, they charge from as low as Rs 600/- pm for a bed in a dormitory for 4 or more persons, upto Rs 4,500 pm for single occupancy of a bath-attached room.
To stay for only 2 weeks, it is best to choose an economic lodge -with Triplicane offering the best on this count as well. You can get a decent, bath-attached single room for as little as Rs 175/- per day [24 hours].
Food is also very economical - and there are a wide range of good and clean vegetarian and nonvegetarian hotels in the vicinity.

Enjoy your stay in Chennai.

I have not stayed. But many students and working men stay in Mansions. The most famous place for mansions is Triplicate. Go towards Marina Beach on Pycrafts Road and you will get many such mansions. Accommodations are available from 300 to 1000 or even more depending upon various facilities and comforts offered by them. You can go and decide by seeing the room and inquiring on the spot. -
