Not a classic suicide, in that the smoker does not INTEND to kill himself.

But yes everyone knows the risks of smoking, and that it can kill.

Sometimes they call drinking too much over a long period of time "slow suicide."

Maybe this is the same.

What is this for your 'Health Class' final project? You're a waste of life... Smoking is not a form of suicide more than eating fast food is. Nobody is assisting the smoker because it is his/her choice to smoke.

Kurt Vonnegut said so in his introduction of welcome to the monkey house. he said he didn't deserve to live and it was the slowest form of suicide he knew of. i always agreed with him. and the smoker is assisting him or herself and we aught to be left alone. there are a lot of worse things out there than smoking or suicide..assisted or otherwise. how lame to gripe at smokers.

I don't think it could be considered a form of suicide.

If it was considered a form of suicide, then everything that was unhealthy would be considered a form of suicide. So eating unhealthy, not exercising, etc etc, would be considered a form of suicide. And I don't think that's true at all.

no it is not because not everyone who smokes dies from it, it would be like saying that because you drive a car you are trying to commit suicide because it could kill you.

No. Suicide is when you are INTENDING to kill yourself. Just because someone is doing something that is harmful that will eventually drop the number of years they are expected to live doesn't mean that they are trying to do it to specifically kill them self.
