I'm the 26 year old, a girl. I used to baby-sit the 14 year old. I met her the day she came home from the hospital. Now that she's older, we're friends. Our families are close. She's like a little sister to me, but we're also good friends.

We're talking about taking a road trip out east for about a week. She really wants to do this and so do I. We're going to talk to her parents more about it later this week. At first her parents didn't seem to like the idea that much, but now her mom was saying she probably can, she just has to pay for it all herself, which she knows.

So I'm just curious how many people would let this happen? You've got to remember, you've known the 26 year old for most of her life. I spent a lot of time baby-sitting her. Even when I wasn't baby-sitting, I spent a lot of time over there. Her mom is like a second mom to me.

I would not have any concerns about my daughter spending that much time with someone I've known for years. However, I would not allow her to go on a road trip. It's not a matter of trust. It's a matter of fear...2 girls alone on the road...no way. Too many things could happen. If they were staying with family at the other end.... and were flying there...that would be ok. But driving cross country and staying in hotels etc...it wouldn't happen.

No. i understand even as i became 16 I had questionable morals. i became also very susceptible. Now that i'm 23, Im satisfied i wasnt allowed to do each thing i needed even as i became 16. I likely wouldve ended up pregnant or on drugs or both

Nope. I wouldn't let my 14 year old go on a road trip period. Their still too young.

Plus, how is a 14 year old going to pay for that?

It all depends on your plans. If you'll be hanging out with your friends, the mom doesn't know them or what they are into. I'd definitely have some sort of plan if I were you. What days you'll be where, etc.

As long as I knew her real well, and as long as she's not a dyke, I probably would let her go.
