i was thinking about going to a college there such as NYU/USC/UCLA etc so that if acting doesnt work out i still have an education and the best opportunities for acting at the same time. I dont know if that plan will work.

Since they're not coming to you, you'll just have to choose one of them. Bring plenty of dreams with extra batteries, sometimes they run out really quickly.
Take bags of money with you because work doesn't come right away. Many actors (don't say 'actress' - you are an 'actor'!) need to earn money at something so brush up on you server skills.
Take acting classes. You'll make friends and contacts for agents, etc. there.
If you take a acting class and DON'T get noticed take a hint and consider changing professions.

Good luck. You're going to need it!

PS Most of the As here do not know what they're talking about.

It depends on what you want to do. I was an actress for years, but stayed in my hometown of Chicago which has a rich theater community. You could move to New York and do theater and the occasional TV or film work, or you could go to L.A. and try your hand at film. But I have to caution you: Theater is a much more inclusive community than film. Theater allows for people of all races, looks, and shapes. Film does not. I would encourage you to focus on learning the craft. That will help you decide. Take a couple of theater classes and a couple of film classes. Through doing the work your heart will tell you what to do. I don't want to sound mushy, but it truly does come down to what you are passionate about and what will make you happy. Acting is a tough business and you have yo absolutely love what you're doing or you won't have the stamina to sustain you when you can't find work or someone says something nasty to you in an audition (which they inevitably will). Don't worry about finding an agent just yet. You probably won't be able to get one until you land some jobs anyway, focus on studying acting. Trust me, you won't regret it.

It would be hard for you to get noticed by Hollywood if you are in the UK unless you get very popular there. A lot of actors and actresses now say they moved to LA and started as production assistants and small time work in the Hollywood business and at the same time worked on their acting skills and just kept auditioning, even for bit parts.

It makes sense to go where the work is. There are always small jobs elsewhere, but if you want to have the best chance to have a career in showbusiness, NYC or Hollywood is where the job offers are.

If you're just starting out, get some experience and a good resume together by doing community theater and any opportunity you get around where you live.

It's possible for your home-base to be somewhere else, but if you want to be in films, tv or the theatre, you're most likely going to have to spend large portions of your time on either coast.

As the others have said, it depends on what you mean by "become an actress." If you just want to act in plays or musicals as a hobby then you can do that any where. There are local theater groups in even the smallest communities. If you want to act as a career then you will need to go to NYC, LA or another city with an active professional theater/movie "industry."

You should definitely get a college education and study the art of acting before you decide to pack everything up and move to Hollywood. It's MUCH harder than it looks. You need to be prepared to start at the bottom and work your way up. It may take a very long time to get there. :-)

You don't have to go to hollywood to become an actress. Look online and find an agent. Go find that agent and perform your special skill. And there you go. That's the easiest thing you can do. You must pass a test or something too.

You can act in theatre clubs in most parts of the English-speaking world - even in small villages in much of Britain. And Londo UK is certainly a center for professional acting, as most likely are large cities in most countries.

But it depends on what you mean by "be an actress". Most "actors" in the profession do not actually make their living at acting. In the news you only see those few successful ones, not the thousands of wannabes.

No, of course not. You can join the Drama Club at school, go to acting classes, try out for local plays, try out for Mystery Dinner night plays at local restuarants, etc. The list is pretty long, you just have to want it enough to look for it. This will get your started and you can move up from there.
