1. You can't factor x^3 because, its a binomial - all you can do is break it down without the exponent ...

(x)(x)(x)

2. 8x^3 + x^2 + 56x + 7

First: when you have 4 terms - group "like" terms....

(8x^3 + x^2) + (56x + 7)

Sec: factor both sets of parenthesis....

x^2(8x + 1) + 7(8x + 1)

(8x + 1)(x^2 + 7)

P.S. from your addition notes you have 8x^3 (which is correct) not 8x^2.....please make sure you write the problems correctly.

1. x^3 = x x x

2. 8x^3+x^2+56x+7

1) x*x*x

2) 8x^2+x^2+56x+7 = 9x^2 + 56x+7
x1 = -56 + sqrt(56^2-4*9*7)
x2 = -56 - sqrt(56^2-4*9*7)

so the factyorisation is
(x - x1)(x-x2)
