Playstation 2 Problems...?

I have a PS2 that is one of the older models. When I put a game in it says it can't detect the disc. After looking up some instructions on the internet, I took it apart and tried to align the little white gear inside to the marked arrow but nothing happened. Is there something else that could be wrong with it?

If you have a disk read error on your playstation 2 console buy a dvd lens cleaning kit for under 12 dollars. Insert the cleaning disk cd into the ps2 system and let it clean. It may take one or two cleanings to fully work. Then clean once a month by repeating the above steps.

Though Sony won't admit it, several of the older PS2s were equipped with faulty lasers that die over time. If the previous poster's suggestion doesn't work, you might have to go out and just buy a new one. You can also pick them up used at video game stores for a fairly reasonable price.

Just be sure to pick up a slim PS2 the next time around, so you dont have to worry about the laser dying. However keep in mind that the slim version doesnt have an internal cooling system like the large ones, so keep it in a well-ventilated area (and not on the carpet)

on the bottom of the laser are two diodes one for cd on for dvd the inner most is dvd turn it clockwise a little bit. this is the laser strength
