Rally some support and march on BT's HQ.

Never going to happen. All new BT work is fibre as fibre can carry 1000 Mbps whereas copper can only carry 10's of Mbps per second over xDSL lines.

If you want broadband and there is fibre in your area I would try either NTL / Telewest as they maybe able to help you.

I am sure that BT are looking at a new fibre based service like NTL / Telewest because of the new home hubs for tv on demand etc.

Sorry Dude - keep trying.

they wont. fibre optic is the future, a lot more data can be sent down a fibre optic cable, and be glad you have it. the future will hold exciting things such as BT switching to what will be effectivlely voip, happening in cardiff wales already.

no matter how much you beg they wont replace optic with copper. but for the time being, get a cable company to give you cable broadband

When you order broadband whatever company you go with should be able to arrange for a copper overlay to be put over the fibres. If this is going to cost tem too much then they won't help

I asked BT to do the same.
They reckoned that they would be able to supply broadband on the optic cables within a year or two.
My response?
I left BT and went to TalkTalk and got free broadband and my phone bill dropped by over half!
Thanks to BT I'm now saving money!

broadband is just the same type of connection as your phone line only more than one connection. fibre optics are far more useful that copper coaxial cables...for a start they are way faster because they transfer so much more information!!
