I'm sixteen, 5'11" and weigh 170lbs. I've never played football other than throwing a ball around on thanksgiving. I love to watch it though and have been a hardcore fan all my life but the only sport I play is baseball. I'm wondering how realistic it would be for me to just start play and make my high school team. I'm in pretty good shape and not real fast but faster than most people......?

Definitely go for it, as others have said. If your 16 and your school has 2 teams (Varsity and JV) you will probably make the JV team.

If you want to make the team:

1) Show up EVERY SINGLE PRACTICE.

2) Do not be late.

3) Answer all the Coaches by saying 'Yes, Coach'

4) Do what they say

5) Don't complain.

6) Try your hardest, in every aspect of practice.

7) Come early, and stay a little late and hang out.

8) Be supportive of your teamates around you.

9) Be willing to try any position or task that is available.

10) be positive.

11) watch, learn. Mouth shut, ears and eyes open.

You will make the team if you want to! Size doesnt mean much when youre 16, heart is everything. 5 11, 170 is a good size for being 16, you could play alot of different positions. Keep your cardio up and and show up to EVERY practice and you will make the team.

Good luck!

Go ahead, I played in highschool and was about the same size as you only probably not as fast, and I started at QB. As for never playing before, I suggest you start form training and weight lifting now!

You have a good chance. If you are not fast then you will need to be coordinated and intellegent. Of course if your high school football team is not very competivitive they will say, sure come aboard no matter what.

Never hurts to give it a try.

DO IT....If it is something you really want to do then do it and you will suceed if you want it bad enough....Don't be like most people and not try out cause you're a little nervous of whats gonna happen then regret it for the rest of your life.

lace up, you'd be a good linebacker, depending on how fast you really are, or a safety, or fullback.. you'll never know your football niche until you start playing and practicing

Sure, go ahead and try out. You've got a lot to learn, though.

If your in high school your going to need to get stronger and faster. Our freshman team has running backs that are 6'1" 230Lbs. linebackers that are 6'3" 245Lbs. and nose tackles that are 6'8" 320Lbs. I dunno try it.
