Before I say the details, this is due tomorrow.

Two friends were driving on the highway when they got a flat tire. First they took off the hubcap. Then they unscrewed the four lug nuts-the screws that hold the tire in place. They put the inverted hubcap down on the road and carefully placed the lug nuts inside the hubcap. Then they removed the flat.

As they were in the process of putting on the spare tire, another car came along, hitting the hubcap and scattering the four lug nuts where they could not be found. The driver of the other car felt sorry, so he stopped to help. The two friends followed his advice, and in a little while they were back on the road again. What did the man tell them to do?

My guess is that the man gave him a ride. Any other answers?

Take one lug nut off each of the other three tires still on the car and use them on the fourth tire. Oh and to buy four new ones in the next town.

This is a very odd homework assignment. Your answer makes sense, but I can't see the point of the assignment. What class asks a question like that?

Anyway, there are other possibilities. Another answer that makes sense is that maybe the other driver let the people with the flat tire use some of the lug nuts from his car -- that way they both could at least get on the road safely enough to drive to a garage and buy more lug nuts.

If you really think about this you can get the answer they actually drove off in their own car and it did have all four tires. the car should have had 16 lug nuts but in the end it only had 12 because 4 of them were lost so how would you divide up 12 lugnuts for 4 tires

really think about this and you will come up with the answer

The man who stopped to help suggested they take one lug nut off of their other three tires so that the spare would be anchored on with three lug nuts...as would the rest of the tires.

They took one lug nut off each of their other wheels and used three lug nuts on each wheel to get them to a service station.

He told them to call for help (AAA, roadside assistance, police) and they towed the car to get new lugnuts.
