*hops up and down* oooo, mememe!!!
There are only two species of alligator in the world, the american alligator, (alligator mississipiensis) and the chinese alligator, (alligator sinensis), not being completely knowledgeable about the chinese alligator, I will focus upon the american alligator.
American alligators reach a maximum length of about 16 feet or so (average being more like 9-11 feet). The young are black with yellow stripes, with age they become a black or charcoal color. The teeth on a gator's lower jaw fit into sockets on the inside of the upper jaw, making them appear to have a bit of an overbite. Alligators have a broader, rounder snout than crocodiles, and conical teeth. The osteoderms (scutes, armor plates) on a gator's back are in nice neat rows.
Compare to.....
There are 23 species of crocodile occuring throughout the tropical and subtropical areas of the world. Some do not reach the sizes alligators are capable of reaching, but others, like the Nice and Salties make gators look downright small (over 20 feet in length). Most crocs range in color from a khaki brown to gold. They have longer, narrower snouts than gators, and the fourth bottom tooth is always visible on a croc (given he hasn't lost it in a fight or anything), various teeth top and bottom stick out, giving them a somewhat snaggletoothed grin. These teeth are slightly flattened, giving them a more daggerlike appearance than gator teeth. The scutes on a croc's back spill over onto it's sides, and in some cases into the belly skin (which is why gator skin has always been prized as leather, it lasts longer than croc or caiman skin in general).
Gators in general have a natural fear of people, and do not look at us as meals, crocs, however since they reach much larger sizes, DO look at us as meals. Compare 20 fatalities by gators in Florida in 57 years, to nearly 300 fatalities by nile crocs in africa EVERY YEAR.
I'll go on all night if I let myself, I hope that's enough.

A crocodile has a longer narrower snout and an alligator has a shorter stubbier snout. Also, crocodiles are found around Africa and I cannot remember where else. Alligators are found around America.

Location, size, and head shape. Crocodiles have long, narrow snouts, while alligators have short, flat snouts. Alligators are also freshwater reptiles, while Crocodiles live in brackish to salty waters.

Aligators are usually smaller, darker colored, and inhabit only North America. Several species of Croc are found around the world, including North American waters in and around FL (but are very rare). They have elongated snouts and are browner in color.

I read this ages ago, but one has a longer snout, and one has teeth that stick out on top. I think the other also has teeth sticking out from the bottom. That's about it.
