We will travel to Cincinnati Children's Hospital in March. We must be near the hospital but in a medium priced motel.

It all depends on how close you need to be to the hospital. If a 20 - 30 minute drive is acceptable, then you have numerous options. The hospital is located near the university and the surrounding area is not the best area of town.
The Vernon Manor and the Marriot Kingsgate would be only a few minutes away and are very nice properties but may be a bit pricey.
If you can drive the 20 - 30 minutes consider staying in the Blue Ash, or Kenwood areas to the north or the Florence, KY area to the south. In these locations you will have ready access to services, stores, and restaurants.
The Holiday Inn Express on Mitchell ave is a newer property in an area that has seen some economic revitalization. It is right next to the highway however. I would stay away from the locations on Central Parkway as well.

try the ronald mcdonald house nearby - it's comfy, and costs almost nothing - depending on what you can afford.

You can actually call the hospital and tell them your situation--they often have an ombudsman/patient advocate there who can recommend the best place for the price you have in mind.
