Why do white people assume most black people are on welfare?

I had asked a simple question like why so much hate against blacks and people responded saying stupid stuff like because they are on welfare, they are criminals and they take up most of the population in prison. What the hell do that got to do with hate? People can sure show their ignorance. Well to let you know we are not the only ones. I am a hard working citizen. Never been on welfare in my life. I am a black beautiful 26 year old woman with 2 kids and always worked a job to support mine. I use to work at Dagostinos on york ave and seen more white people come in and use their benefit cards to purchase there food than any other race. So what do people mean by Blacks are mostly on welfare? If you really wanna be technical try looking at the immigrants. They come here and head straight to Human Resourses. No offence intended. Just stating the facts.

Good! You sound like a smart, strong woman. That's good - no matter what race you are.

I *personally* get mistaken for a lot of things, so I don't assume any one is anything.

But, I think part of the pre-conception problem, is how many smart, working black people do you know who ACT ghetto? I'm afraid I've known more than a few - and it gives other people the wrong impression.

Just keep being you and change people's minds!

First let me say, I am a white woman who has been on food stamps. I grew up in an area that had very few black people, actually there were only 2 black people in my entire high school. The area was also a poor economic area with few jobs, and a LOT of white people on welfare. I grew up being told that black people were lazy, stupid, poor, ignorant, etc. etc.... I am proud to say as an adult, that I have found this to be completely untrue. I work with whites and blacks, and have black friends that I find to be more hard working, more honest, helpful, caring, independent, just in general wonderful people. People who think only black people are on welfare are the ignorant ones, I agree with the statement of the immigrants, I don't think they should even be able to get government benefits. I believe there are bad examples in every race, and ignorant uninformed people should keep their mouths shut about things they obviously know nothing about.

It's just because of all the prejudice and racism that is going on in the US. People think that blacks are automatically dirty, poor and all that junk. The reason behind this is because most black people have ancestors who were slaves. And if you had been a slave, there was nothing worse. You were poor, you were sold apart from your family, you had no freedom, basically you were just like a machine. The white people controlled you... And this gives a feeling of superiority to white people. And as for this criminal thing, it's because some blacks (a little after the 'slave era') rebelled against the whites, and beat them up and stuff. The world isn't perfect, in fact, it's far from it. But tell these people about the good 'black' people, Oprah Winfrey, rappers, a lot of black people are famous and stuff!

People are ignorant or just feel pleasure at putting others down.
I know many people of all colors who are on Welfare & Disability because of hard luck or disease in their lives.

I am a white person, used to be very hard working (at one time had four jobs at the same time), intelligent, paid bills on time, etc.
I became seriously ill and in constant pain because of Fibromyalgia (which has contributed to a low immune system, not HIV related) and arthritis. There are very few jobs that would tell you they would hire you even though there are many days each month you won't be able to work. The pain got so bad I tried to kill myself. Then someone suggested I try for disability. I hate receiving money that way, but I had to. I figured out a way to make myself feel better about it: I had paid so much in tax over the years, now I would be receiving a tax refund each month.

Disease and bad circumstances are color blind. Don't listen to the bigots and ignorant rantings. I have never understood the use of prejudices in the first place. Welfare was put in place to help out people who need it at times. Yes, there are people who abuse the system....shame on them. They make it harder for the people who really need help. But, there are those who need help of ALL races.

I feel there are so many people of color and non-whites in prison because the justice system is also prejudiced. Many people in authority ARE prejudiced and DO profile, whether they say justice is blind or not. This also holds true for people who don't have alot of money. Many are picked up under minor offenses, then given exhorbatent sentances, while people with money get off with a slap on the wrist.

We need to change the system, stop fighting amongst ourselves, and work towards a better world together!

Who is the biggest minority group in the USA (Jews, Blacks, Asians, Mexicans, Muslims, Macral-Smakers, Yellow Skins, British, or Swedish)??? The other races have lots to say as well (racial and non-racial).

I agree with your statement about a lot of people making generalized statements about Black people being on public assistance and criminals. First, let me say there is nothing wrong with being on public assistance if you are using that time to make the best changes in your life so that you will not have to use public assistance in the future. However, I am distressed about the statement of putting the blame on immigrants. That is a tactic that keeps people of color from coming together to make the changes that disproportionately affect people of color. So, TECHNICALLY, the problem is not the individuals receiving assistance, but how poor people are blamed for all that is wrong in the USA.

i think it has alot to do with the typical image portrayed in the media of black people. We as humans (all races) as a whole take what others say a face value. we are susceptible to influences we feel are strong than us and above us. listen to the rap songs alot of them are about how hard life is in the ghetto on welfare. the black culture of today is a very negative one for your race. The whites are not doing so well either (we all look like a bunch of rich, power hungry racists, )
We should all just unite and merge the races as one so one day you will not be able to hate anyone for skin color because we will all be the same mix of them all.

I don't agree with you. Most people don't think blacks are on welfare. Welfare is a system used by many people of many ethnic backgrounds. You are making a big assumption. You, however, seem to imply that welfare makes you a low person. Life is half chance and not everyone is as fortunate as you are or as capable of crawling out of the bad circumstances they were born into. Please be respectful of the 'immigrants' so that others can understand that you are an intelligent, successful black person.

12% is black people in this country so of course more people are white. so more people white use cards

,every black persom I have ever known has hurt me in some way.I painted a church property.took months. the black preacher said when I was thru said he owed me nothing.

I took in a black neighbor who lost his home.for a month he stole my fine dishes.

I took in a parilized man and a gang of blacks cut his throat at the end of the street one evening.

I was at the park and a black man opened the door and kicked me till my ribs broke and one punctured my lung and irt filled with fluid and I about died, for nine dollars I had on me.

I cant walk thru my neihgbourhood with out being robbed.

when they took over my old neighbourhood, they acted like animals.
