The smallest particle will be an atom , but I remember that atoms of oxygen are not alone by itself because its a diatomic or triatomic molecule .

There is molecular oxygen and atomic oxygen. Oxygen as we find in nature is molecular oxygen, O2, and it's smaller particle is a molecule of oxygen: O2.
