My daughter has been seeing a midwife but the midwife is in the same office as the OB GYN.

I'm not exactly sure the difference, but I had a Midwife. She was great. She was there all throughout my labor and delivery. She made sure I stayed comfortable, held my hand, calmed my husband down...I think they tend to treat you a lot better. I would prefer a midwife any day. Good Luck choosing!!

I didn't have a natural birth, I had the pain meds. You can still have a Midwife and not have a natural birth. I delievered in a hospital too.

Midwives:

Nurse midwives have an RN & have completed additional postgraduate training at an institution accredited by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM). Direct Entry midwives have trained as midwives but with out getting an RN.

Midwives also have a different philosophy about pregnancy, labor & delivery, than OB. They belive in being supportive rather than interventive, & attentive to emotional issues. They use low risk stratigies to correcting problems that may arrise in pregnancy & labor.

OB's:

Are phycisians that have completed a residensy specializing in obstetrics & gynacology. They may be board certified meaning they passed a national qualifing exam. They are surgical specialists in the pathology of women's reproductive organs!

A midwife can care for you and deliver the baby in an uncomplicated pregnancy. You will also have a natural delivery as they can not give any pain medications. An OB/Gyn is a doctor that can help you with any complications, provide pain management and preform surgeries, like c-sections. Hope that helps.

In my experiences a midwife is more there for the comfort and exoerience of the mother, and a Dr. will run in catch the baby and run out. I had a midwife with my first, and I loved her. She did everything the way I wanted, not the way she thought it should be.

a midwife is not a doctor, is the big difference. Most midwives are Certified Nurse Midwives (nurses with extra training in midwifery). Some are lay midwives, meaning they have training, but are not nurses.

I think midwifes can only be women and they can come to you instead of going to them all the time
