And should Flintoff be reinstated as Captain?
congrats England on your first win! Flintoff once again proved he is brilliant and Vaughan proved he's not worthy of the position. Why he demoted Flintoff during the game to 5th risking the chance that he may not get the opportunity to bat and why he went out to bat first while injured just doesnt appear to show any technical skill for a Captain. With Pietersen gone, your chances of winning another game are dependent mostly on Flintoff, so shouldn't he be rewarded for his skill and reinstated as Captain?

James - agreed! instead of letting your selectors choose pin-up pansy boys, let Flintoff source a real team.

(btw im an aussie, but i'd still like to see England do better so we would have a challenge)

Dave G - Vaughan was injured before he went out to bat, he was caught on camera several times rubbing his leg while in the field when the kiwi's batted.
and saving your best for 5th place is not exactly smart in a one dayer, what if the kiwi's continued dot balls and singles on the first 4 batsmen, and Flintoff didnt get the time to make the runs he made, or worse didnt get to bat at all?
you gotta be smarter than that mate, if you want to play the Aussie's!

Of course England will win again although it could be a while before it happens against Australia. Flintoff is a great player but not a great captain Vaughan is far better and so for that matter is Strauss. Having Flintoff as captain is putting all our eggs in one basket. Leave him to concentrate on his batting and bowling and take the presure of captaincy away from him.

England have 1 major problem, they are too British!

In other words they are so conservative and bordering on boring.

When was the last time England were 100-x after 15 overs, probably against Ireland.

Except for the big hitting Flintoff, Chris Read the reserve wicket keeper (#1 in my eyes) is the only England player currently in Australia to have hit a 6 in an ODI in 2006 - that says it all.

If England bat second chasing a small total they should see themselves home like against new Zeland on Tuesday but other than that England will struggle , they are 8th in the World after all.

Shame I'm an England fan with the world cup round the corner!

I think that England can only beat NZ in future games.
Thanks for the congrats, shame that the Barmy Army weren't there to see it.
I would have thought that the coach had a large input into who bats where, wouldn't you? Flintoff always bats at 5 or 6 anyhow. It is also done to give him a rest between innings because he bowls at the death.
The captains respect Vaughan as captain on and off the field.

Don't know why the skipper opened the innings, seems strange to me too.

Whilst I don't think England can beat the aussies, remember, that England did not have the choice of playing -

Pieterson
Giles
Trescothick
Simon Jones

1)the general consensus amongst cricket experts is that vaughan is a much better captain than flintoff.
2)What's wrong with leaving flintoff at number 5. He (and Pietersen) maybe the biggest hitter, but the batsmen before are more than capable of reaching a total.
3)i don't think vaughan was injured when he went out to bat.
4)it's an awful lot to be one of the main batsmen, one of the main bowlers and be captain and also flintoff is a very defensive captain while vaughan is much more innovative and open to new ideas.

Yes and no, in that order. Freddie is not a good captain, all he knows is to lead by example. Virgil is a top skipper but unfortunately is poo at ODIs! I'd make Strauss the ODI skipper and keep Fred at 4 or 5 ... he is our best hope for a matchwinning innings, don't want to expose him against the new ball. The only exception I would make to that is against Sri Lanka where the #1 threat is Murali, I'd push him up the order so that when Murali comes on he's already in and set.
England might beat Australia but only if everyone fires, they may well beat NZ again.

I think Vaughan should be captain and let Freddie do what he does best, play his own game. With KP gone we need a Freddie firing on all four cylinders. He is a natural match winner but the captaincy is too much. Remember Beefy had the same problem.

vaughan is totally useless. people were moaning how england need him and as soon as hes back, he hurts his leg. get rid of him for good. make flintoff captain, let him choose the team and hopefully hell choose a team that can bat properly

england can only do well against less experienced teams.ashes clean sweep by aussies over england is an example,so ask e.c.b to put good players in the coming world cup 2007.
