Or is it completely just looking for others to reaffirm one's opinions?
It seems many people would have to have the truth run them over before they even considered it a possibility!
Has anything you read here changed your mind on anything?

To those of you who are really trying to learn something, I applaud you. To those of you who have nothing to say or learn, you are a waste of space. I visit this site to see what "the people" have to say on issues. Even though I disagree with many opinions, my ego isn't too big to simply dismiss an opposing point of view. I try to evaluate both sides of an issue and then interpret the why's for myself. And even though I'm still working on it, I ultimately want to predict others arguments based on their values. Oh, my favorite part is when a provocative question can help others evaluate a belief.

No, most of us are here just to reaffirm our opinions, to be perfectly honest.
However, I come here to the P&G section simply to hear the other side, and to stay up on current events. I enjoy all the links people post here, and except for the spam postings, I do visit all of them. My favorites list has grown considerably.
Even with all that, though, it seems that my opinions now have a more firm foundation, with everything I've seen here.
I haven't really changed my mind on anything.

I actually have learned a few things, though the functionality of this site seems to be more a place to vent than to learn. It is useful for both activities I think from time to time.

Seriously though, being on this site so often has caused me to regret some of the votes I have given to Republicans over the years. Being an Independent, I vote on the issues and not necessarily the party. Before the mid-terms I was appalled at the refusal of the Republican Bushies to accept party responsibility for the scandals that rocked them in the weeks before the elections. Posting after posting was full of rock throwing at the Democrats for scandals conceived inside of the Republican Party. I also became weary of every question regarding Bush's problematic policies being answered by scads of throw back insults about Clinton, rather than addressing Bush's mistakes. Anything not to blame Bush was the general agenda coming from those in YA. It made a great deal of difference to me when I voted. I voted a straight Democratic ticket for the first time in many, many years, mostly out of disgust. I even considered that maybe YA wasn't the best place to get my Republican base information, so I specifically started paying equal attention to conservative editorials, newspaper articles and conservative political shows. The same trend was happening everywhere. And so my vote went to the Democrats, as much for the contempt of the Republicans' inability to admit any wrongdoing as the need for some checks and balances on this incompetent President.

You will learn this is a Neocon spam site with multiple Neocon profilers with hundreds of accounts that are nothing but invalid trolls from MySpace.com. This is a spam site without any validity, and has no credibility because of the Conservative trolling. Go to the forum page and see what Yahoo Katie posted about the spammers, and it is a major problem they are going to remedy. They already know who is doing the trolling and hacking of their network, and causing this site to be a laughing stock for the web. You can't use any answers from here and get the truth only spam.

Yes, what I have read here has caused me to have a change of mind. Prior to my exposure to this, and other forums on the net, I actually believed that we had a populace capable of logical thought processes and priorities. I'm ashamed of my naivete................

It always amazed me that Public Speaking, but not Public Listening was offered. Mankind has never had a problem with opening it's mouth (look at the cellphone users about us) but comes up short on the receiving end of communicating.......

I've gained quite a bit of knowledge since I started coming to this message board. The most important lesson that I have learned is I still have a lot to learn.

I can't say it has changed my core beliefs. I can say it has given me the opportunity to gain insight as to why people are the way they are though.

Probably the most rewarding part of coming to Y/A is the interaction with the men and women serving in the military. Conversing directly with them and their family members have made the most impact on how I view certain issues.

I do, and then we question why we are the position we are. Heck, if I ran the country, i might want to easily use the Politics section on Yahoo solutions as a suitable get jointly of why this usa is the position that is.

I'm not here to learn anything. I'm here to be a smart a**.

What could I learn here?
-The American economy is the strongest it's ever been.
-The ACLU is anti-american
-George W. Bush is a great president.
-Global warming isn't occuring or isn't caused by industrialization.
-Ronald Reagan is the greatest president in America's history
-Ingeligent Design is science
-The national debt doesn't matter
-Evolutions is just a theory so it should be debated on equal terms to creationism
-Fox News is fair and balanced
-The media is liberal (by the way, Fox news, Rush Limbaugh, and the Wall Street Journal are all part of "the media")
-Joe McCarthy was right on track.
-on and on and on....

Not many of the people on this site have anything to teach me. (my apologies for this rant to the few that do). I know a lot of people on this site are not acquainted (consciously) with the concept of negative information but that is what this board is loaded with. Learning here would devalue your base of knowledge..

OK. I was gone for a minute. But I'm back now. I have learned a few things here.

Thumbs up. Good question.

Not in the politics section, except it's interesting to see how people are thinking. But one issue has brought me to rethink my position, as I had a follow-up discussion with someone through emails.

It has changed my world view on issues where I didn't previously hold an opinion and has shaped my opinions. I can't say it has changed an opinion I previously had entrenched, however.
