Especially in light of recent events, one of which being the decapitation of Saddam Husseins half brother as a result of being hung. This surely is an inhumane form of execution. What are your ideas on the subject?

do not understand any execution.
Saddam and his cronies had no right to execute the people they did - no right to 'play god' - no right to decided who lives and dies
But I don't think ANYONE has that right
By sanctioning some executions you negate the arguement against him

staying away from the whole death penalty "right / Wrong" debate for a minute... if you are going to do it, Hanging is actually one of the quickest and least painful ways.

with hanging, most people do not die from slow suffocation, it is actually the snapping of the spine with the heavy knot applying pressure to the base of the neck that severs the nerves and stops blood flow to the brain.

Electrocution takes much longer and the recipient is seen to convulse and scream in awareness of what is happening. Whilst gas chambers appear a solution, they too take much longer to die, with the recipient gasping for breath and struggling.

Lethal injection again is a lenghty process and although the patient is drugged into a form of 'sleep' the actual application of the injections takes minutes, in which the recipient is again fully aware of what is happening.

if the death Penalty is to be carried out, surely the swiftest, most humane way is preferable, which provides the recipient with a quick, minimally painful and non humiliating death. Whilst the Saddam execution may have failed on the last count, it cannot be denied that this was quicker and less painful then seeing him gasping for breath and vomiting.

I have always been against the death penalty for various reasons including wrongful convictions and social views when younger. I am on the fence now. I read some convincing material and one person pointed out how you would feel if it was your loved one murdered. I have always considered this thinking with the heart. The system if used needs changing. Heinous criminals or heartless crimes do deserve death. Appeals done and executed within no longer than 2 years of sentencing. I realy question the humanity of lethal injection with recent cases. The old drop hanging method instantly breaks the neck and is near painless.(condemned is unconscious while dying) This seems the appropriate way for a criminal of this type to go, the trauma a part of their punishment.

Personally I am against the death penalty though I do believe more lives will be saved since the Iraqi people know Saddam and his henchmen are never to return to power. The physiological fear imposed upon them caused lasting damage. Some probably still fear his retribution from the afterlife.
If I was sentenced to death for whatever reason,I would choose hanging in the top 3 if I had a choice. It is quick and the brain stem is separated in less than a second thus virtually painless.

the official hangman of England Mr Pierpoint was expert at his job to save what happened for a person's decapitation while being hanged he would study the person to be hanged through a spyhole and judge his weight allowing him to know how long the drop should be to avoid decapitation and he was always right on. what has just happened is inexperienced man doing the job

generally yes all forms of execution should be banned worlwide .if we call ourselve humans and not barbaric people well i think its the only thing to do .death by hanging...come on now,its absolutely wrong,we live in the middle ages now?its the 21st century!a exception to the rule should be made where certain terrorists/muderers/dictators would be killed on sight or given lethal injection at the very least am all fo human equality but i say characters like osama and others should be killed on sight bu as in general i say it should be banned worlwide

ban any kind of execution. if they want to make any person pay for a crime they have committed, then death is a relief not a way to punish. Plus, judgements are made by people and people make mistakes. If someone is innocent and his innocence is proved then this person can get out of jail. Once executed though.....?

I am completely 100% against hanging because of a personal experience, but I was always against execution in the first place.

The only people it is inhumane for is the people who were there watching. He was dead when his head came off, I don't think he cared much, so it is clearly not inhumane to him.
As for the witnesses, if you find that the concept of someone's head popping off might be too much for you, don't go watch. Nobody was forced to witness this, so anyone who was upset or offended by it can blame no one but themselves for the damage, They could have just as easily not watched it.

You must realize that the condemned did something to deserve this fate. I think that having your neck snapped or your head torn off is quite a bit more humane than what these people did to their victims.
