Trying to decide if I want to visit there. What's it like? What's there to do? Is it fun?

It was cool. It's really far away from anything and there is nothing but a few cheap hotels, restaurants, and an IMAX theater right outside of the park.

It costs $25 to get into the park. There is enough to do if you spend a day there. We did a day hike down the Hermit's Trail to Dripping Springs. It was amazing. The places I walked, I couldn't believe it. We decended 1500 feet and went 3 miles into the canyon. It was a challenging day hike, and a lot less crowded than the popular Bright Angel trail.

IF you can afford it and make reservations far enough in advance, stay at the EL Tovar hotel. It's historic and very beautiful. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express outside of the park and it left much to be desired. The pool was even closed.

They do have a shuttle bus that will take you to different overlooks throughout the park if you are not interested in hiking it. I think it's a free shuttle and runs every few minutes or so.

The mule tours are supposed to be really fun. They are expensive ($300) and you need to weigh under 200 pounds with all of your gear so it may not work for all people. It needs to be reserved well in advance as well.

We got a National Parks pass and did the Grand Canyon as well as a few National monuments around the Flagstaff area. That was well worth it. Also, if you have time, drive south to Sedona and do some hiking there as well. I only wished that we had more time to travel west to Las Vegas. Being from Pennsylvania, everything in Arizona was completely different and amazing to me.

I thought it was beautiful, majestic, and an amazing spectacle of nature.

My friend said "It's just a big hole, what's so great about it".

So I guess it depends on your point of view. I thought it was a great place to visit. Try white water rafting down the Colorado River. I've heard taking a helicopter ride over it is amazing, but I could not afford that.
