With the exception of the majority of western Europe & Some areas in Asia, how come the rest of the world has not advanced as much as the unitied states in terms of technology and quality of life?

OK lets use Mexico. I recently returned from that Area and thus led me to ponder this question; Why has the U.S. advanced more than Mexico?

That's a fair question despite the snotty answers. There are a few factors that go into it.

One major reason is that the US has greater economic productivity than poorer countries -- it takes little of our labor to satisfy basic needs of food and shelter, and therefore labor is freed up to develop technology and provide modern services. You couldn't expect Mexico to have developed the Internet, for example, because they simply could not have afforded to devoted the expertise to that endeavor.

Another reason is the US has a solid tradition of property rights, free enterprise, and opportunity. People in the US have the most incentive to be inventive and innovative, because they stand to become rich from their efforts -- something that has historically been more unlikely or completely impossible in many other countries. The people criticizing this question don't want to hear it, but even today if you are Canadian or European, the surest way to become rich from your own talents or entrepreneurial bent is to move to the US, which is why those regions suffer a chronic brain drain to the US.

Try this too:

"Other states vs California?

With the exception of the majority of the mid-atlantic states & Some areas in the mid-west and southwest, how come the rest of the states in the US has not advanced as much as California in terms of technology and quality of life?"

When you've found out the answer to that one, you'd be able to answer your own question too!! My guess is that a state or a country advances more in technology and quality of life compared to the others because of its natural and human resources and to a degree, historical and geographical (or rather geo-political) circumstances as well.

Why is Texas such a rich and technologically advanced state (think aerospace and electronics) and right next door to it, Arkansas is so poor and backward? Same question really...

Woa buddy, which countries? I think if you look carefully you'll find that many countries outside of those you mentioned live as well or better than people in the US and have technology and thriving economies. Look at Australia and New Zealand for example. Canada has one of the highest standards of living in the world.
As for the many places where things are worse, I think corruption and lack of education is usually to blame.

Quality of life? Are you sure? Have you been to the rest of the world? Technology is not important to everyone. If the U.S. has it they will give it away, so why bother?
