300 years ago today was the Act of Union that united Scotland and England. It wasn't the English who took over Scotland it was the Scottish who effecively took over England and placed a Scottish king on the throne of the newly formed UK.

Scotland's record of repelling the English is an excellent one, England's record of repelling the Scots is dismal. Even 2000 years ago the Roman Empire conqured England with ease but failed to conquer Scotland, they even went so far as to build Hadrian's Wall to keep the Scots from invading them.

Today of course things are different. If Scotland left the Union it would become one of the richest small nations on earth putting it on a par with the likes of Saudi Arabia. There are at least 1.5 trillion dollars worth of recoverable oil reserves in Scottish Waters.

England on the other hand would become a very poor nation, it's current economy is based largely on revenues from North Sea oil.

If there was to be separation there would be a massive disparity between the extremely rich and powerful Scotland and the poor and much weakened England. If anything it would be the Scots that invaded England as a means of payback.

Scotland would still be a member of the European Union, I assume, and so as part of the European Union England would be subject to European law as well as international law.

As part of the European Union, England and Scotland would both be European. They would also both have some members of the human race living in each country (allegedly). This would mean that there would have to be some kind a allied force which both would share a significant contribution towards. One could call that force Great Britian, or something else. It really does not matter.

I believe that it is Scotland who will be invading England at Twickenham early in February. That will annoy the English!

I think that England is more likely to leave the Union. My reason for thinking this is that at present we are dictated to by a Scottish junta, because unlike the other parts of the union we have no Parliament, that we are unable to dismiss in an election.

The best solution would be to all have independence with a similar arrangement that was made when Southern Ireland got its independence.

Of course this will never happen while the Labour party is in Westminster because their power comes from the imbalance of MP's elected in Scotland.

They did it before. It did annoy the Scots. Why would you want to do that? But if they try it again, this time it would be different. Nowadays almost all English men are poofters.
