How do you motivate someone who is hopeless about life and just wanna stay in bed all day and have everything handed to them all the time. In addition to that, this person is scared of everything and always says that she is not feeling well, but when going to the doctor, they can't figure out what is wrong with her.

Sounds like she is depressed and she may not even know it herself. I don't know if you mean "Bring me a coke" or that she wants everyone else to support her financially. If you care about her, insults will worsen her condition and validate her depression. She needs a good MD she trusts or is willing to see and get him to start her out by finding the best anti-depressant that works for her. Have some compassion for depressed people, please. They often don't even know they're depressed, and think they suddenly realize their life stinks or that everyone's life stinks in general. Be kind to her while you try to help her. Were you ever in Scouts??? I hope so. Kindness has a way of coming back to you when you need it yourself. And she doesn't have silliness, but she has an illness. The general state of terrorism has even the best of us pulled down a notch. Bring her things and give her kisses when you do to emphasize she has more than food to turn to. Please do that!!!Good Luck!! @8=)

For one, do as some of the others have suggested - stop waiting on her hand and foot. It sounds as though she is suffering from depression and staying in bed all day is only reinforcing it. Just getting up taking a shower, taking a walk outside will help some.
The second thing is take her to another doctor. Surely there is a medical professional who should be able to help her rather than not being able to figure out what is wrong with her.
I wish you the best.

"Hopeless about life", "bed all day" are clear signs of depression. That is why an M.D. dosen't find anything wrong. If you are a friend or a relative I would get an appointment for her/him with a Psychiatrist asap.

Sounds like she might be suffering from severe depression. Perhaps a psychiatrist or psychologist could offer a conclusive diagnosis.

BTW, if it IS depression, there is nothing "silly" about it. It is a debilitating and severe disease that can lead to death. Luckily, it is also among the most treatable of all mental disorders.

write in glow in the dark ink "Im Underneath The Bed And Im Gonna Kill You" that should get her out of bed quite quickly.... then she wont be worring about any thing but the bed for a wile then you can get her to lay down on the couch wile you "Check things out" and then well she'll have a relaps of paranoia but you can take care of that.

i agree with jimfix stop enableing. She just does not believe in herself. It was a good move to go to a Psychiatrist. What did he say? Its probably the truth.

Quit handing her things and just let her stay there. When she gets hungry enough she will get up.

How about this: Quit babying that person. All you are doing is reinforcing their silliness.
