Seeing as the car is 9 years old, it is very possible that the fuel pump has failed. You did check the fuel cut off button in the trunk, correct?

Heat will cause a pump to fail early. A tank mounted fuel pump uses the fuel itself to cool the pump. If you let the tank get low regularly, the pump will fail earlier!

With the pump not working with a good hot line and a ground connected, it is time to drop the tank and replace the pump!

Its a very common problem around 48,000 miles. The wires inside the fuel pump chaffe and short. A replacement is needed.

Age takes it's toll on those pumps more than miles do. Don't put unfused power to the pump unless you have a fondness for exploding gas tanks.
