You need an ovulation test to be certain...
I am also trying to conceive and the way it has been explained to me is this:
First you need to know the length of your monthly cycle. Work this out by counting the days from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period... For most women this is 28 days give or take a day each month... If this is the case it means you have a 28 day cycle. The best time to conceive is when you are ovulating. We ovulate around half way through our cycle, so if you have a 28 day cycle you will ovulate around the 14th day... This is the best time for conceiving as it is when your eggs are being released from their ovaries. Most ovulation tests will tell you to start testing around the 10th/11th day and keep going until your ovulation day is detected, this is the optimum day for conception.

Hope this helps! The leaflet inside an ovulation test kit will probably explain in more detail...

Have sex three days before, the day of, and three days after ovulation which usually occurs 14 days after your period. Sperm can last up to five days in the vagina so it makes for better chances. If you do it every day there will be a lower count of sperm in the semen so every other day would be good too. You can look out for some physical signs that will help you tell when you're ovulating (release an egg). A reliable sign is an increase in vaginal discharge, which changes from white, creamy or non-existent to clear, stretchy and slippery when you ovulate. You may also notice other signs, such as: breast tenderness, bloating, mild abdominal pain, and etc. You can buy ovulation prediction kits to test the hormone levels in your urine to find out when you're at your most fertile. Anyway, if you are trying to get pregnant, there's a lot of things that you can do to improve your chances of conceiving. I've bought the 'Getting Pregnant Plan by Michelle Adams e-book' from http://aboutgettingpregnant.com, it has a lot of information about boost your chances of conceiving, pinpoint your ovulation accurately, improve your fertility and pregnancy related. Maybe it will help you too.

If you type `online fertility calculator` into google you will get lots of programmes that tell you the best time. If your cycle is 28 days long then your most fertile time is between day 13 and 15 from the first day of your last period. Fertility calculators tell you exactly depending on your cycle length and last day of period. You should adopt this approch and then do fertility tests (pee sticks) around the day you think you should be ovulating to see if this is the case. Sometimes you will also feel a low stabbing pain at either side of your abdomen around this time which is a sign of ovulation. Another sign is vaginal discharge - when it is stretchy. You will find much better info on the internet than relying on yahoo answers.

Sperm cannot survive in the vaginal canal under normal conditions, it is either too acidic, or alkaline (I can't remember which...). So when you are reaching ovulation, you begin to discreet mucous (discharge) to provide a more hospitable environment for sperm to live and travel. Once you ovulate and you fertile window is over, this mucous dries up within a day or two.

So, about 1.5 - 2 wks after your period you should begin to notice this discharge begins. It is easiest to see on the toilet paper when you wipe after going to the bathroom. This is kinda gross, but if you get some between two fingers, it will stretch. Every day it should be more stretchy (up to several inches). The stretchier it is, the more fertile you are. Typically if you do not have mucous, you are not fertile. Start checking each month and it will become easier to identify.

Well you ovualte 14 days before your next period. So you start by charting your period on a web site like " MyMonthlyCycle.com" charting is free on there. If you have a very regular cycle then you may not need to chart just count 14 days before the start of your next period to know when your ovualting. If you not 100% them go get a ovulation kit and when your within a few days of when you think you might start ovulating start testing. You are most fertile 2 days before and the day of ovulation.

Good luck!!

It's true that you are most likely to conceive at around day 12 of your cycle but the way my friend got pregnant was by having sex every other day for a month. Odds on you'll get the right day at some point.

There is a website called www.mymonthlycycles.com. It's free and you just need an email address; you tell them the first days of your last two periods and they predict (over time with more accuracy of course) when you'll ovulate (be your most fertile) and when to expect to menstruate. You can even customize your email subjects any way you'd like, which is fun; like "wrap it up tight!" or "tonight's the night!" I'm new to the site but I like it so far.

I used the basal thermometer and graphed my temp. every morning(this comes as a kit at your local drug store) just ask your pharmacist. It took only 3 months to conceive. The thermometer looks like a regular one, except it only runs from about 98.6 to a little over 100 degrees. The way you tell if you are pregnant is that your temp. stays the exact same for 2 to 3 days. It was a really cool experience.

Simplest way is with ovulation kits which you can buy from chemists, otherwise you could use the temperature method which is where you measure your temperature each day and your temperature will rise by 1/2 a degree when you are ovualting. I think.
