In dance class, we are being paired into partners and I got this girl who is mentally retarded. She can't talk very well and doesn't seem to understand instructions. I don't think she has ADD though. However, she really irritates me because she tries to knock into me while I am practicing and always tries to be in my way. One time, I wanted to just shout at her to stay away from me (I didn't do it though). Is it natural to be annoyed like this or should I just suck it up? What should I do so that I can deal with her?

It is just like dealing with a child, they can very often be very annoying, but they really do not know any better. Talk to the class instructor, she can ieither offer you some advice, or maybe keep a closer eye on your workout to make sure things don't get out of control.
Just don't lose your cool, you are dealing with someone who does not think like most people, give her a chance.

Of course it is. Its natural to be annoyed with ANYONE who's annoying. And its just not people with with mental health problems. The MOST annoying people we know aren't even mentally retarded, but they damn sure act like it, but try not to be mad at someone who can't help being mentally challenged. She could be rude, but it could also be a result of her mental illness. No matter what though, stay calm, and be nice. I would try to change partners if you just can't handle it. Just say that the two of you don't mesh well. The teacher should understand.

There are a lot of people who are smarter than you. Do you annoy them?
Imagine you were in a different country and had trouble with the language. How would you like people to treat you?

first you need to understand that a person with mental retardation has feelings just like you do, so yelling isn't going to work, you also have to understand that she is capable of learning how to dance, it is just going to take more time and care on your part, But what a wonderful experience you will have if you can help this girl attain her goal and you will more than attained yours If you do not feel that you can do this please advise the teacher and she will hopefully get some one with more patience and not so concerned with them selves

Remember her mental impairment and thank God every night that you are not like her or worse off than she is.

Get in another class if you can't be tolerant. Maybe there are some who think you to be retarded. All things are relevant.
