Ok I purchased a refurbished computer from hp about 4 1/2 months ago. I made recovery disks when I first got the computer. And a couple months later I went to use them and they did not work. So I called them and ordered a set of recovery disks. They did not work either, a message popped up on the screen saying the product id does not match computer hardware or something along those lines. So I then called them and they said they might have sent to wrong disks, so they sent another set. Which did not work again! Then they sent another set, which I received today and were the exact same one's they've been sending me. I called and talked to someone and they said I would have to pay over 200 dollars for my computer to be fixed. My computer is out of warrenty (only 60 day warrenty) and I don't feel like I should have to pay for something that I didn't cause. It is not my fault the cd's won't work and the hardware is faulty. What do you think I should do? Its not fair what so ever!

I have called and spoke with the supervisor and I keep hearing the same things over and over. They really do not want to listen, all they keep saying that it is out of warrenty. It doesn't matter if it is out off warrenty, I am not the one who inspected the computer and put it up for sale. They shouldn't get away with selling computers with faulty hardware, they said it could be my hard drive, mother board, ect. Something I haven't messed with. I haven't even added any software to the computer since i've gotten it! Only pictures from my camera and microsoft documents which I made for school. Please any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Legally....you are in a bind. However, write a strongly worded letter or email telling them you plan on reporting this to the Better business bureau or what have you. Call back and ask to speak to the manager. Go higher and higher until you find someone willing to help you or you hit a wall.

It is bad faith that this happened to you.....they SHOULD fix the problem. Throw out some mild threats and you may turn the situation around!

Good luck to you!!

Legally, if you own a Windows XP (or any other Windows) CD (not the recovery discs), you could do a clean format of the hard drive and install a clean copy of Windows. You WILL LOSE everything though. HOWEVER, if your computer just has a Windows error, you could choose to reinstall Windows ONLY, without formatting (note that you need to have matching operating systems). Remember to always back up your important files when you can!

you will need to go back to the place you bought the computer. they obviously used some non-standard parts or hooked them up in a non-standard way. so the only ones that can help you are them.
