Sheffield Wednesday was formed onWednesday 4th September 1867at a meeting of The Wednesday Cricket Club, - named after the day the players ,primarily craftsmen, took half day off work to participate.
Hence the fantastic wednesday revolution was born.

This comes from when wednesday was half day closing,shops used to close at midday most of the team where shop keepers,so sheffield wednesday was born.

They are called Wednesday because they used to be a cricket team who played football in the winter to keep fit. The cricket team was called 'The Wednesday' because they used to meet on Wednesdays

the reason they are called sheff weds, is they were a team made up of butchers who could only play there fixtures on a wednesday. hence.....
