I use both a 'Wintel' PC (running WinXP Pro) and a Mac PowerPC (running OS X Tiger), and I've connected them via a simple FireWire aka IEEE1394 cable. Every time I boot up or wake up the Mac, Windows insists on starting the 'found new hardware' wizard which then fails to complete. How can I stop this from happening, without having to reconfigure the connnection or otherwise mess with it too much (it otherwise works fine and I'd rather not risk that)?

And yes, I know that every Mac user out there will say that it's hopeless as Windows is so fundamentally rubbish, and equally every Windows user will tell me to drop the Mac off the nearest railway bridge, but I'm kind of looking for a more practical solution here... :-)

forget about stupid people, mac-pc, u have the best of both...
when the "new hardware wizard" appear CANCEL CAnCEL and cancel again, don't let it finish!!!
windows will try to identify the mac, but surprise surprise, doesn't .

and from a post in that page:
"All modern Macs can also be put into FireWire Target Disk Mode by powering up the computer while holding the "T" key on the keyboard. A FireWire logo will appear on the Mac's screen. You can then connect the Mac to another computer by FireWire, and it will mount as an external FW drive. This is no substitute for the networking capabilities of IP over FW, but if you just want to do a quick and dirty file transfer, it does the job well."

good luck

i'm getting at a loss for words over this question at cases, even as human beings advise getting a Mac and run living house windows in it? Why problem? living house windows is designed to run on any pc made by technique of somewhat all and diverse from Dell to the Singer sewing device organisation. Macs became once a closed gadget operating their power pc hardware, yet now with the Intel chips, the diff is in common words interior the operating gadget, software, and the cool hardware. in case you're taking the Mac Mini outa the equation, the most inexpensive Mac is a grand. you may purchase a darn positive pc for that value. Me? gained't purchase Sony because of DRM, Toshibas are ok--- Asus and Acer are good laptops. You get what you pay for. Being a school student, its time-honored to have a Mac. It gained't make you any smarter. Your mothers and fathers good to spring for it? good, get one. you isn't saddened by technique of it. something that runs Linux is sweet! Macs ain't that frustrating to apply. only a lil wierd for peeps coming in from living house windows. Lotsa forums for noobs available.
