I am 30yrs old, and have been diagnosed with moderate cervicial dysplasia, and i am HPV negative, my doc wants to do a cyrocauterization procedure for treatment. What are the side effects of this procedure? How much does it hurt? Does it work?

Its not bad at all. They numb your cervix and burn out the abnormal chunks. It doesn't hurt, just feels like you have cramps. And you'll cramp for a day or two afterwards. The worst part is smelling the burning flesh. I was already a vegetarian, but after I smelled myself cooking I know I'll never touch meat again!

It is fairly effective; you may have to go back for a second treatment if the first one isn't completely effective (about 20% of the time).

The discomfort is minimal; you'll have some cramping during the procedure, and some mild to moderate cramping (all similar to severe period cramps) for a day or two afterward. You may also have some watery and possibly bloody discharge for up to a week. The entire procedure should last less than 1/2 hour. Afterward, any discomfort you're experiencing can be helped with Motrin or Aleve.

You'll be fine...I've been there too.
