There is nothing in any herbal teas that can be bought anywhere in the US that can cause a high. It's an urban myth like smoking bananna peels. Your son's friend is just an idiot or was smoking some real wacky weed, and is still an idiot.

Your son's friend is curious wants to alter his mindset by using a substance and doesn't want to break the law. Smoking tea won't get you high, it might be harmful to your lungs, brain. I'd honestly worry about this more than Cannabis as cannabis has been studied and all reliable scientific evidence say its safer than most over the counter medication and definately safer than legal and illegal recreational drug

On the other hand I dont recall ever reading anything about benefits or dangers of smoking tea, and seeing how some tea has other ingredients in it that just makes things worse. I would just tell your son that it doesn't do anything to get you "high" and that all his friend is doing is hurting his lungs and pretending to be "high".

Or if your really wanting to turn him away from smoking anything at all make him smoke the herbal tea,(its not as bad as tobacco im sure) and make him drink milk, then smoke more, then drink more milk until he feels really ill and probally wont want to even think about smoking anymore because he'll remember how sick he was. Sure its mean and kinda cruel but it works.

Could he have been smoking something else and trying to pass it off as herbal tea? I know people who actually think people will believe they are carrying around a bag of oregano.

It won't get you high, but many kids try anyway. I did! We tried banana peels, catnip, oregano, etc. Nothing works but the real thing.
