Sure, it borrows from some other movies like the Ralph Maccio "crossroads" from the 80's, but it's funny, really stupid, and in the tradition of "dude where's my car" and again, "crossroads" (the GOOD one from the 80's with steve vai and the karate kid). It's beter than some other movie's out now (according to Rotten Tomatoes). What are your opinions?

I'm not saying that "The Pick Of Destiny" was the greatest movie ever, just that it had some great elements and was exceptional for what it is (a "stoner" comedy).

Jack Black is well-known to moviegoers, but Kyle Gass? Not so much. Relative unknown co-star...limited subject matter appeal..."R" rating keeping out the kiddies...not really a recipe for big-time success.

Don't get me wrong; I thought it was a lot of fun. But it doesn't surprise me to hear that it wasn't a big hit.

Even though popularity and acting talent can bring some people to the box office, good movies are about great writers, visionary directors, and artistic editors. The Pick of Destiny" didn't have those elements.

Tenacious D isn't that well known. The movie probably did great with TD's fanbase, but if you don't know Tenacious D that well, the premise of the movie sounds stupid. I loved it tho!.

While I think Jack Black is mildly funny and a somewhat talented musician, I just don't think he can carry a movie. "Nacho Libre" seriously sucked, and if he hadn't had Gwyneth Paltrow, I would not have seen "Shallow Hal", altho Im glad I did- he was good in it.

But "School of Rock" was as far as I go for Jack Black.

You must also consider what it was up against. I regret I don't have the list with me, but I'm fairly sure it was up against at least one other animated film, which almost always are smash hits at the box office as well as other hyped films.

It was just WAY too much rock for the kids. They knew that they faced a great chance of having their face melt if they went to see it. Who wants a melted face?

Overexposure for Jack Black, personally I think he is hilarious but too much already!
